| Hi. We have a 4 1/2 month old TT that we bought from a reputable breeder 2 weeks ago. We were rather surprised in the first week to discoverd two bald patches hidden under hair; one under his front right leg and one on his back right leg. The one at the rear is on his knee joint and is about five centimeters in diameter. The one at the front causes us much more concern for it is much larger and it stretches from the rear of the elbow, up and under the shoulder and is about 3 cm wide x 10 cm long. The skin in the area also appears to be puckered. As soon as we discovered the loss of hair we took him straight to the vets. He informed us that in his much learned opinion that he thought it was a birth defect or that the pup had suffered some sort of trauma early on in life. The skin is not angry looking, it is white in appearance (the dogs coat is black) and there are no visible hair folicules there either. Which indicates that the hair will not ever grow back. We phoned the breeder to enquire about possible trauma or defects, to which they denied any knowledge of either; and they told us that it could be stress. We know that the breed can be prone to this, but if it is stress wouldn't hair folicules still be visable. Could this baldness be permanent? Any help would be greatly appreciated. |
