Confirming shelter adoption is a TT 2010-02-09 04:00:40
We adopted a stray at the county shelter last spring who was listed as a TT but they weren't sure. We needed to trim him pretty short due to the knotted condition of his coat from living on the streets. We couldn't be happier with him but we are still not sure of his breed. Our vet isn't sure either. He resembles photos we have seen of a TT, cockapoo, or portuguese water dog. Is there a way to confirm his breed?

clippering or scissoring 2009-09-30 23:33:09
Hello

I would be so grateful for advise regarding my one year old male tibetan terrier, murphy.
He had a beautiful, soft, shiny, silky coat which I had clippered as he went into kennels for 10 days while we were having a holiday. His puppy coat was blowing and i thought it would be less traumatic for him in a puppy cut temporarily.

The groomer clippered him.

I have now been told that he will always have the clumpy hair and it wont ever go back to how it was as i have had it clippered once. The groomer i take him to has told me that there is no point in scissor cutting it as he is stuck with that clumpy hair from now on!

Im really upset about this, as i did want to keep his coat long and was advised by the kennel ( a tt breeder) to get his coat cut short as they couldnt keep it knot free.

Any help regarding this would be much appreciated.

Baldness 2009-08-23 22:36:47
Hi.

We have a 4 1/2 month old TT that we bought from a reputable breeder 2 weeks ago.

We were rather surprised in the first week to discoverd two bald patches hidden under hair; one under his front right leg and one on his back right leg.

The one at the rear is on his knee joint and is about five centimeters in diameter.

The one at the front causes us much more concern for it is much larger and it stretches from the rear of the elbow, up and under the shoulder and is about 3 cm wide x 10 cm long. The skin in the area also appears to be puckered.

As soon as we discovered the loss of hair we took him straight to the vets. He informed us that in his much learned opinion that he thought it was a birth defect or that the pup had suffered some sort of trauma early on in life. The skin is not angry looking, it is white in appearance (the dogs coat is black) and there are no visible hair folicules there either. Which indicates that the hair will not ever grow back.

We phoned the breeder to enquire about possible trauma or defects, to which they denied any knowledge of either; and they told us that it could be stress. We know that the breed can be prone to this, but if it is stress wouldn't hair folicules still be visable. Could this baldness be permanent? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

fighting pups 2009-06-21 15:12:19
Hi, I have 3 month old TT males from the same litter, both were originally purchased for show - depending which was more "standard" would decide which would be neutered when the time came. However, last night one vomited and they nearly killed each other. I had stepped out of the house for about 10 minutes and when I came in I couldn't believe what I saw. Both their heads were covered in saliva and they both had blood from bites on their legs. Then this morning, instead of the usual puppy play fighting, they went at it again and neither would let go of the other. They were locked on each other's heads. After holding them both and everything had calmed down, I set them down and they started up again. I seems the harmless play fighting is gone and they both act vicious towards each other. I now have them totally separated and don't know where to go from here. Should I just give up on my dream of showing and get both neutered now (instead of 6 months)? The pups are both perfect, and I love them both equally. Until last night, they've been best friends. However, yesterday morning they attended a dog socialization hour for the first time and it seemed to go well. Also, they attended their 1st obedience class a few days ago. I'm in tears. I have never seen such aggression in pups this young, and I can't tell which one starts it. Also, I have a 15 year old spayed mix who I've kept separated from the pups since day 1, so I don't think she is the cause. Is it normal for this to happen when they're so young? I don't know if the vomiting last night was before or after the fight, nor which one got sick. Could this be caused by illness or is it very early dominance issues? Thanks for any suggestions and advice. Anyone else experience this?
Totally heartbroken, New York
